Games like The Witcher 3 Remastered: 9 RPGs that give you that same story-driven, choice-heavy, monster-hunting feeling set in medieval fantasy open world.
9 Games Like The Witcher 3 Remastered on Steam – Best New RPGs
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered launched on September 29, 2026, and a lot of people are going back in or finishing it for the first time. If that’s you, these are the best games like The Witcher 3 Remastered, from a brand-new dark fantasy RPG made by Witcher veterans to a few picks you might not expect.
Nothing feels quite like the Witcher 3 Wild Hunt Remastered once you’ve finished it. But Still, Here are 9 Games like The Witcher 3 Remastered that come closest, featuring the same medieval fantasy world fulll of monsters, magic, sword combat and quests that really matter. Lets start the list!
01
The Blood of Dawnwalker
First one is recently released “The Blood of Dawnwalker”. It’s directed by the Witcher 3 director himself, along with few of the old witcher developers behind it. You play as Coen, and it’s basically The Witcher 3 in vampire theme. The world is gorgeous, gloomy, filthy, and merciless, and nobody gets a happy moment. That’s exactly how dark fantasy should feel. There is a time limit for the story quest which looks scary but its not, as I finished with five days to spare easily.
The combat is the big upgrade, You attack and parry from four directions, and knocking an enemy off their feet is incredibly satisfying! Most skills also feel useful, and the choices you make in the quests really matter in the story. Play Dawnwalker if you can choose only one game from this list, and you want the latest and greatest game closest to the Witcher 3 Remastered!
02
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
Second game we have is Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. It’s set in ancient Greece during the War Period, and you play a mercenary who can be a hero or a menace. It has dialogue choices, branching quests, and a gorgeous map you can sail across.
In my opinion Odyssey feels very different from other Assassin’s Creed games and has lot in common with Witcher 3 instead. if you want a huge open world packed with stories, RPG elements and melee combat with skills, its a great choice. In terms of main quest, i think it’s far too long but thats a plus point for many players.
03
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II
Next up is Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. This is a medieval RPG set in 1400s Open World, but with no magic and no dragons. You play as Henry, a blacksmith’s son slowly becoming a capable fighter and someone people listen to. Like Witcher 3, the side quests are small stories with real consequences, and villagers have routines and opinions that make the world feel lived in.
Play it if you loved the grounded, gritty side of Witcher 3 and wouldn’t miss the monsters. The combat takes a while to get used to, and early on you’ll lose fights you thought you’d win. But once it clicks, nothing else feels this tense.
04
Elden Ring
It drops you into Massive Open world called Lands Between from Dark Souls universe, with almost no hand-holding. You explore the world, stumble into strange dungeons and locations, and fight many many tough bosses. It shares Witcher 3’s sense of wanderlust, when you ride toward something on the horizon and it turns out to be worth the trip. Play it if exploration is what you love most and not the story.
There is a story which comes in fragments, but its nothing like Witcher 3’s conversations and cutscenes. Overall the freedom to wander anywhere in Elden Ring is unmatched, and when a boss finally falls, it feels earned.
05
Skyrim with Mods
Next Game is Skyrim but with Mods, lots of Mods. The base game is old, but with mods it’s a different beast. Better graphics, tougher combat, and huge quest mods can make it feel brand new. It shares Witcher 3’s love of a mythic, snowy open world you can get lost in. Setting up mods can be bit of time consuming but there are lot of good guides out there, and the best thing is that you can customize it to your own liking as much as you want.
The main quest is much weaker than Witcher 3, but its all the side quests and quest mods which really makes the Skyrim legendary. Honestly the amount of content available for Skyrim is staggering, you can spend years in it literally and still the community will offer you so much more to have.
06
Middle-earth: Shadow of War
Next up is Middle Earth Shadow of War. You play as Talion, a ranger bonded to an elf wraith, fighting through Mordor. Like Witcher 3, it’s about hard-fought battles against big, nasty things. The standout is the Nemesis system, where orcs remember you, get promoted, and come back for revenge.
Play it if you like systems that create stories on their own. The main plot is forgettable, and the endgame gets grindy, But a rival who killed you three times and now wears a better helmet makes every fight personal, and few games have copied that. In terms of combat and enemy fights it feels very close to Witcher 3, yes its bit old but its totally worth it.
07
Avowed
Next is Avowed, This is Obsidian’s New first-person fantasy RPG, set in the Open-world called Pillars of Eternity. You’re an envoy sent to a mysterious island, traveling with companions who have strong opinions about what you’re doing. It matches Witcher 3 in political intrigue and writing that doesn’t hold your hand.
So if you like dialogue choices and faction drama more than open-world sprawl, and not afraid of first person camera, it is a must play game. The individual areas are smaller than Witcher 3’s, more like big hubs than one continuous map. But the combat feels fantastic, with spells, guns, and swords all mixed together.
08
Dragon’s Dogma 2
On the Next spot we have Dragon’s Dogma 2. It’s a fantasy action RPG where you hunt griffins, cyclops, and hydras, climbing right onto them mid-fight along with your companions. That’s the Witcher part: tracking down huge monsters, where preparation makes a real difference. Your AI companions, called pawns, learn from other players’ games and help in battle.
Play it if the monster hunts were your favorite part and you want combat with real physicality. The story is thin and performance can be weirdly rough, But the moment you ride a griffin as it takes off, you’ll understand why people love it.
09
Baldur’s Gate 3
Finally we have Baldur’s Gate 3. This is Larian’s turn-based epic, a Dungeons and Dragons story about brain parasites, gods, and a party of very memorable companions. Yes, its set in different camera angle, and its turn based RPG, but when you talk about RPG, Baldur’s Gate 3 is unmatched. It cares about choices deeply and its characters feel very personal. Even small conversations can change how things end. Play it if you cared more about characters and consequences than swinging a sword.
It’s one of the best written RPGs ever made, and I’d put its companions up against anything in Witcher 3. Of-course the catch is that it’s turn-based, so if you hate that, you’ll bounce off fast.
